Theres no entrance fees of any sort. Think of Amana colonies as a nice village you could just drive past or stay and enjoy the local delicacies in.
Not in the part of the colony that I had visited. You may be able to borrow a stroller.
Depends on which colony you go to. Most are open Monday through Saturday. Some on Sunday.
Try the Ox Yoke. They're fabulous!
The Amana Colonies Popcorn and Sweet Shop is open 7 days a week.
It's not far from Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Lots of hotels there.
Yes, It is still in bloom.
May 2-3 is Maifest in the Amana Colonies. There will be plenty to do including a Saturday morning parade at 10am followed be Ethinc Food Trucks and entertainment. The Miapole Dancers will perform all weekend. On Sunday there is a Wine, Beer, and Chocolate Walk. It's a great time to come to the Colonies. Here is a link https://amanacolonies.com/things-to-do/festivals/maifest/
Yes, his shopp is called Custom Cutlery & Ironworks. Here is the phone # 319-622-3482.
Nice place to stop by and spend some time with brewery. The city is small with lot of things to buy.
I highly recommend going out of your way a little bit and visit this place. They have a lot of restaurants and wine tasting stores and other types of gift shops. They also have a great furniture / Clock store. They also have a store that sells Wool products like sweaters, Blankets.I highly recommend stopping here. It’s a 10 minute drive north off of Interstate 80.
There wasn't a lot of places open. But the shops that we were able to get in were very good
Was Actaully really fun we visited a lot of different sites it was kind of expensive but I think work it to learn a little also have a great meal at I think it's called the ox yolks in it's a family style setting where they just keep bringing big dishes for the whole table. Some expensive quilt shops and what not lots of wood working shops.
Has declined since the 80's. Things I wanted to visit were closed for refurbishing or because it was Sunday. Ox Yoke Inn still serving family-style meals.
Amazing! Great shops, decent prices. Took my son to see Santa, $3 per person goodwill donation money goes to the Children's Hospital at the University of Iowa. And any items (food/drinks) they sold in the barn at Tannenbaum Forest went to a cause, which I would rather go there than the local mall and spend a fortune for the mall Santa.
Disappointed in the fact that Dave said 80% of the Amana's was open. Drove 2 1/2 hours to get there. The only thing open was retail.
Great place to stop and see. If there is one thing you should know ahead of time, is give yourself time. I wish we could of stayed longer to see more, but just didn't have the time. This is for sure not a quick stop, unless you're just stopping in for popcorn.. YUM!!! You will defiantly need a few hours to take the beauty of the Colonies in and all they have to offer!!
The best place to start when visiting the Amana Colonies. Grab a map and check out the samples from the different shops. Don't forget to go upstairs.
Great place to visit awesome food always get wine.
So many options to choose from, both old and new. Great character and ambiance for the time period depicted
This was a wonder and strange random stop just a few miles off of the expressway. If you like a place with an old time fee, you will love visiting this area.
Shops open at 10 am. Not sure why they haven't updated the website. Masks are required. Some shops are closed but most are still going.
It is also Beautiful and peaceful
Friendly , understanding staff. Affordable prices and good WiFi.
So clean, fun and friendly.
I’ve been working at Whirlpool for quite some time and finally had a chance to bring my family out to explore Amana. This place is definitely worth a day trip. The community has a laid back and historic feel. The houses are beautiful if you appreciate architecture. Walking the street and visiting the shops is a fun time. You have to buy a beef stick from the meat shop! SOOO GOOOOD!!
Fun lil day trip! Millstream does not disappoint!
Such an amazing place! Must go and experience fully. They have so many homemade interesting things, delicious treats, candy, food. Spend a day and see so many cool things.
Quint little town. Because of the virus some of the attractions were closed, but also could have been because it was a Tuesday. Eat lunch at Ox Yoke and it was very good but the 4% charge for using your credit card was a little weird. Really, $1.20. We were very happy with the experience and wish things weren't so affected by the virus.
Beautiful small town. Nice people and delicious food and drink.
Love to visit this area. Friendly people and staff, and very unique German history. Always stop or stay when passing through.
Interesting place, nice shops, good food!
Really interesting and fun place to visit. Quality products especially from the woolen mill
Dealing with covid madw this stop much easyer today. Not so manu people ro deal with but always a nice stop.
Be ready to to do some great walking. Lots of neat little shop's. Really neat place. If your in the area this is a must stop and see place.
Interesting to see the various locations spread out over a few miles. Nice welcome center and gift shop. Staff here were friendly and willing to answer questions and educate about the area. Probably would be more interesting during a festival.
I like the antique stores. I can always find adorable things there. And the meat shop! Just can’t wait to visit again.
Lovely town, and filled with lots of different surprises, such as great beer tasting and lots of lovely wine! There are lots of fun shops and art to see and a wonderful bakery. So much history ins this little German settlement in Iowa.
The Amana Colonies Popcorn and Sweet Shop has reopened with a new owner. It is now a family run business. They're making changes and updating the place every week it seems. This weekend they had fun popcorn flavors for Halloween such as Witches Brew. Stephen, the owner, developed a yummy Pumpkin Pie flavor that is light and fresh... not overloaded with spices...
Cool rustic place to do some shopping, fair price on goods.
Iowa is beautiful but this place is simply amazing!
Virus meant no free breakfast or socal evening, no pool, etc. But prices were MORE than usual. Liked full kitchen. Aged property.
I was moderately disappointed with my experience. I did not see one single person wearing a bonnet, NOT ONE. The shops had hand sanitizer for customers to use, however the sanitizer smelled like DEATH. I was so sick from the smell that I went into a Casey’s to wash my hands and rid them off the death smell. I do give it one star because the guy at the ice cream shop gave me a ton of samples and someone left their cute ceramic snail for me to steal.
Magpie burgers are awesome! It's not just pizza!
A lot of the old shops closed and have new shops now, but the Smoke Shop is still there with great Amana meats. And the bakery seems to be making a comeback. The sweets shop across the street is good too.
Bed n Breakfast at the Rose good time
The woman working was the sweetest thing. She helped plan out where to visit, the best routes, the best shops for our interests, just so sweet. Love that they had all of the resteraunt menus there too, made planning easier.
Great place for information, maps, and t-shirts
First time to Amana and very happy we came. Had so much fun walking the shops. Picked up some moccasins I haven't found in years. Had an early dinner. So much more to do still. Will definitely be back.
We visited on a Weekday. Most stores are still closed. Of the shops that are open some require you to wear a face mask. Pictures from a couple of nice shops. The bakery has fresh pastries that are delicious. The other is Iron Horizon. It has some cool yard art. The owner was super friendly.
This is a must for traveling through Iowa! German heritage at its best. Breweries and wineries really top off the local shops.
Spent two days enjoying the villages, shops and restaurants. Be sure to allow plenty of time to enjoy the countryside and the beautiful scenery. Everything about this destination is enjoyable.
The people are all very helpful and want to make it good. Lots of things to see and most reasonably priced.
This Pizzeria is the best. We tried 4 types of pizza...all amazing. Best Red Sauce ever! Friendly and Fun which is also important to us. We were in town from Omaha NE and plan on going all the way back SOON just to try other items. While there I heard one customer say, "BEST PIZZA I ever tasted." WE AGREE!
A great place to spend the day in the shops and museums. Several great places to grab a bite to eat as well as fantastic fudge, popcorn and baked goods. Pick up some local wine also.
Super cute German village, awesome shopping and history.
Should have reached early to enjoy more, next time.
Zuber's Homestead Hotel is the place to stay! Clean and comfortable feels like home. Great breakfast and "treats" at check-in😊
Friendly town with quaint shops and great food.
